How does number portability work?

You can sign up for new service and now keep your existing phone number from your previous carrier. But there are a few things you have to keep in mind:
  • Your current number must be active. You cannot bring a number that has already been deactivated. If you intend to "port" your number, do not cancel your service with your current provider. This will be done automatically once the port process is finalized.
  • Your current number must be local. We cannot bring in a number from anywhere outside the local calling area. (i.e., Bay Area, out of state, etc.)*
  • You must be the account holder. Service with your current service provider must be in your name.
* If you are moving from out of the local area, you may be able to maintain the last four digits of your phone number, subject to availability.
